Student Video Competition Information and Rules

The School of Education is sponsoring a student video competition to promote the SOE. The videos should concentrate on the positive aspects of studying at the SOE, using creative techniques, dialogue, and perhaps humor. Simple “talking heads” or animated PowerPoints won’t do the job! For an example of this type of not-what-we-want video, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ-BLMTveGo.
For a better serious example, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH98AZyE14A.
For other examples, including humorous ones, see the document “Some UM YouTube™ videos worth watching,” on this site.

The winning videos will be shown on YouTube™ and the School of Education website. They will also receive a $200 prize and public recognition.

Rules for the competition:

  1. Any student (undergraduate or graduate) currently taking classes from the School of Education is eligible.
  2. Submit a written proposal (deadline March 31) using this entry form.
  3. After feedback from the review committee, produce a video of 30 seconds to two minutes in length promoting study in the School of Education. Entries concentrating on the Master’s level are especially welcome.
  4. Deadline for submission of finished videos is May 15, 2008.
  5. All entries must be accompanied by written permissions from any identifiable person in the video. Photo and video permission forms are available here: http://www.soe.umich.edu/staff/resources/index.html.
  6. Winning videos will be announced on June 2, 2008. Winners may be asked to further refine the videos before showing on You Tube™ and the SOE website.
  7. Winning videos become the property of the School of Education and the Regents of the University of Michigan.
