Steps of the RFP process

Initial Steps: The Concept Paper and Application process
We welcome proposals from any faculty or staff member or graduate student in the School, and encourage partnerships and projects that involve doctoral students who are preparing to become teacher educators. The initial step of the RFP process is to consult the current posting of TEI priorities and defined RFP opportunities. The connection between the applicants’ project ideas and the content of this posting will determine the appropriate first step in the RFP process. For the work on extending and sustaining projects and work on large scale projects, applicants will need to submit a concept paper (Adobe PDF - not to exceed four pages) that identifies project participants and provides a succinct overview of the connection between the proposed work and the TEI, the educational opportunities the project will offer for students, and the project’s research/teaching/service potential, and that estimates resource requirements. For those interested in proposing novel work that is aligned with TEI, an initial meeting with a TEI Steering Group member to discuss the project ideas is strongly suggested before applicants complete the concept paper. For small scale projects, applicants will need to complete a brief application form (Adobe PDF) that designates which small scale project is of interest and describes project related experiences and goals. A current CV must accompany any proposal.
Concept Paper and Application Review Process
All proposals and applications will be reviewed by members of the TEI Steering Group. Proposals for larger-scale innovations will also be evaluated by at least one at-large reviewer from the broader School of Education community. Criteria will vary according to the nature of each proposal and include the following:
- Alignment with and potential to advance the work of the TEI
- Additional research/teaching/service potential
- Match of applicant experience and composition of applicant teams with the proposed work
- Correspondence between requested resources and the scale or importance of the proposed work
Applicants whose concept papers are accepted will be asked to formulate a more detailed Logistics and Products Plan. Applicants whose concept papers or applications are denied can arrange to meet with TEI Steering Group members to discuss whether revision and resubmission is recommended based on feedback from reviewers.
Logistics and Products Plans (Adobe PDF - for larger-scale projects)
Once a concept paper has been approved, applicants are required to generate a plan that details the project timeline, necessary resources, specific deliverables that will be of use in TEI work and for sharing beyond the TEI, and an evaluation plan. This plan is submitted to and reviewed by the entire TEI Steering Group. A point person from the Steering Group will work with the applicant on revision of the plan until it is sufficient for use in supporting progress on the project and for the TEI Steering Group to follow that progress over the course of the project.
