Student Michigan Education Association (SMEA)
The Student Michigan Education Association is a student organization for those interested in education or becoming educators. The University of Michigan Chapter of SMEA is an active group of Secondary & Elementary Education majors, as well as students working towards a variety of other majors, who meet monthly to focus on education, socialize, work on community service projects, and hear from a variety of speakers.
We meet the first Monday of every month at 7pm (Michigan time) in the Whitney Room of the School of Education, unless otherwise noted on our website. (http://um.smea.googlepages.com/)
There are speakers at every meeting about various topics in education. Some previous topics have been Classroom Management, SOS Community Services, and Teach for America.
Throughout the year we do various service projects around the Ann Arbor area including Science Night at Bryant Elementary, Kids Fair, and Tutoring at Huron High School. We have a group of members attend the annual SMEA conference in Lansing every March.
We also have fun socials!
For more information on the benefits to joining our campus chapter of SMEA or the statewide SMEA, please visit the following websites, or feel free to contact one of us. We hope to hear from you!
