- February 27: Lewis W. Diuguid, Vice President for Community Resources at the Kansas City Star and author of A Teacher's Cry: Expose the Truth About Education Today will lead conversations with Detroit area community members, educators and journalists on strategies for finding solutions for urban public schools. During "Coffee and Conversation," Diuguid will meet with local journalists and educators from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm; from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm the conversation will continue with a public forum for all interested and concerned citizens. Both events will be held at the Detroit Public Library, Main Branch, Explorers Room, 5201 Woodward Avenue, Detroit. The Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning invites proposals for teaching innovations and new research initiatives from University of Michigan faculty. The proposed projects should advance the Ginsberg mission to engage students, faculty, and community members in learning together through community service and civic participation in a diverse democratic society. Grants up to $10,000 are available to individual faculty members and projects should be completed by the end of June 2009.
