A. DEAN'S UPDATES
1. One of the walls on the first floor of West hall has been designated as a
"poster wall" for those of you who are interested in showing work you are
presently doing in your project or program. Posters will full color, 24" x 48" in size and will be created by the communications group design team.
If you would like a poster created for your group, please make your requests by going to: http://www.soe.umich.edu/printproject
Please include all text, logos, photos, graphs or any art images that you would like to have on the poster. Text in Word format and images in jpeg formatare best. If you have questions, please contact
ypappas at umich.edu. On your approval of the poster design, we will prepare it for presentation for the poster wall.
2. Elizabeth Moje will be this year's Thurnau Professor Honors Convocation speaker. Honors Convocation, held Sunday, March 18, in Crisler Arena, is a lovely campus-wide ceremony honoring undergraduate students at all levels for their academic accomplishments. Several thousand students, faculty, and family members typically attend. Congratulations, Elizabeth!
3. Professor Carol Lee from Northwestern University will present "The Practice of Teaching and Its Implications for Teacher Education" at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Tribute Room. Professor Lee's work is unusual in her close attention to two key elements of teachers' work -- considering students' cultural practices and resources and the connections of those to disciplinary knowledge and skills. She also concentrates on teaching practice itself. These are issues important to our work in teacher education. This presentation is part of the Teacher Education Seminar Series, "Teacher Education: Considering the Past to Build the Future," sponsored by the Teacher Education Initiative.
There will also be a special discussion on Friday, December 1, facilitated by Magdalene Lampert in which participants will talk about the issues that Carol raises in her seminar. This special discussion will take place from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon, in the Brownlee Room. Please contact Francesca Forzani ( fforzani@umich.edu) to sign up - a few places remain.
