7. SAC UPDATE: CUSTODIAL SERVICES
The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) has been looking into concerns raised at
the SOE Staff Retreat in February. One item was the cleanliness of the
School of Education Building. Members of SAC have met with the maintenance
supervisor for the building and he is very receptive to addressing specific
complaints/concerns. Please note that the custodial crew does not report to
the SOE facilities Office. They are University employees. The Supervisor
provided us with a copy of the cleaning schedule for the School of
Education, which is a description of when specific cleaning tasks are to be
completed. In addition, he gave us copies of the U-M Building Maintenance
cleaning standards, which is a description of what specific things are
supposed to be accomplished. Please send Anita Lautenbach an email at
nital at umich.edu if you would like a copy
of the SOE Cleaning
Schedule. The cleaning standards document is available at
http://www.recycle.umich.edu/building/Custodial_Services.html.
SAC
encourages all employees to review both documents and to email any specific
complaints/issues, including the occurrence date, when possible, to Mike
Napolitan at mnapoli at umich.edu. Mike
will share these items with the
supervisor.
8. IRIS & MCards
The last upgrade of IRIS circulation software allowed the use of the
barcodes on the back of U-M ID cards instead of keeping a second set of
barcodes just for IRIS circulation. Since then IRIS staff have been
registering new patrons using the barcode on the back of their MCards. Most
faculty and staff were registered in IRIS before this most recent upgrade
and therefore still had the old-style barcodes. There is absolutely no
reason for you to do anything about this until the next time you want to
check out books, videos or software from IRIS. When you do please bring
your MCard so the barcode can be scanned. The old one is no longer
operable. If you have questions please contact Donna Estabrook at
destabro at umich.edu or 647-2418.
9. FACULTY EXPLORATORY SCHEDULE
The June workshop schedule for the Faculty Exploratory is available on the
web at http://www.lib.umich.edu/exploratory.
To register, please email
lib.workshops at umich.edu or visit
the Faculty Exploratory web site.
10. NEWS FROM ITCS
==Summer 2003 Blue Disc Now at Showcase

in the Michigan Union. This latest version of the Blue Disc features the

==Sobig Virus Filling Mailboxes
The Sobig.C variant of the Sobig computer virus began spreading rapidly
worldwide on June 1 and has been filling the mailboxes of many U-M email
users with infected mail. The virus spreads through email attachments. The
text of the infected message is always, "Please see the attached file."
You
can protect your computer from viruses, including Sobig.C, by installing
and regularly updating the free antivirus software available from U-M. (The
Sobig virus family infects only computers running Windows.)

There is now an easy way to check how much of your 50 MB mailbox quota you
are using from mail.umich.edu. Log in to mail.umich.edu and click the
Folders icon. Your usage will be displayed in the upper right corner of
your folder list. http://www.itd.umich.edu/news/2003spring/05292003a.html
==Spammers Using Forged U-M Addresses to Send Spam
Spammers have long been able to obtain email address lists that may include
valid U-M addresses, which they then use as recipients when sending spam
mail. Recently, they have begun to use addresses from these lists not only
as recipients, but also as senders of the spam they send.

== Classification System Project: More Campus Interchanges Scheduled
All staff and faculty are invited to attend an important presentation on
the Classification System Project. The University of Michigan's project to
redesign its job classification system has recently reached a milestone
with the development of a new framework that will provide the overall
approach to the classification of positions across the university. This new
framework organizes jobs into "career families". One intended outcome
of
this structure is to allow much easier job navigation for both current and
prospective staff. The first two Classification System Project (CSP)
Interchanges were held on North Campus and Central Campus in May with high
levels of participation. More interchanges have been scheduled so faculty
and staff can hear about the framework and its planned uses. Participants
are encouraged to prepare for the session by visiting the Classification
System Project Web site, which can be accessed from at
http://www.umich.edu/~hraa/class.
A list of upcoming CSP Interchanges is
available at the web site.
==Sexual Harassment Tutorial Available to all U-M Staff, Faculty and
Students
HRAA's Gender Equity and Sexual Harassment Policy Office offers a free
online tutorial for all staff, faculty and students on the prevention of
sexual harassment. The tutorial defines sexual harassment legally and helps
users understand the best methods to recognize and prevent it in the
workplace. Members of the University community can access the online
tutorial by visiting the Education and Training section of the Gender
Equity and Sexual Harassment Policy Office Web site
http://www.umich.edu/~hraa/harassment.
