1. UNDERGRADS PRESENT AT MCTE
SOE undergraduate student teachers Rebecca Gian, Stephnaie Murray, Kimberly Ther, Jessica Sommerville, and Kathleen Schanne recently gave a presentation to a packed audience at the Michigan Council for Teachers of English "Bright Ideas Conference." The panel discussion, titled Reflections and Perspectives of Student Teaching," concentrated on information and after-thoughts in the categories of observation; resources; transitioning to becoming a teacher; self-reflection; and staying in touch with your college self.

Date: Wednesday April 30
Time: 9:00 a.m.

3. BE AWARE OF CONSTRUCTION
Beginning Monday, April 28, construction will begin on the SEB roof. The contractor will be vacuuming the gravel/stone off the roof for at least two full days, which will be somewhat disruptive on the fourth floor. They will also be closing off the ramp between the SEB and School of Social Work Building and putting up a scaffold covered decking at the main entrance on East University on the north end of building. If there are any questions please feel free to contact the facilities office at mnapoli at umich.edu.
4. FORGED U-M ADDRESSES USED TO SEND SPAM
The University is very concerned about forged e-mail. However, technically, it is simple for spammers to forge U-M email addresses, and there currently is no way to prevent them from doing so. U-M IT security staff have developed a standard reply message explaining forged email that you can use to reply to complaints. Copy it from http://www.umich.edu/~itua/email/spoofing/complaint.html. Additional information about forged email is available at http://www.itd.umich.edu.
5. ELI WORK OPPORTUNITY
The Testing Division of the University of Michigan English Language Institute is looking for education graduate students interested in being trained as Composition Raters for one or more English language tests. Continuous work in the Ann Arbor area is available. Raters pick up and return compositions weekly, and can work at home. Peak work seasons are spring, summer, and winter. Composition Raters are paid a per-composition rate that is estimated to be equivalent to approximately $15/hour. Raters will be paid $30 for attending the two-hour training session and qualifying by rating trial packs of compositions.
Training sessions:
Dates/Times: Thursday, May 15, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. &
Friday, May 16, 10:00 a.m. - noon
Location: Conference Room B, 3145 TCF Building
Those who are interested should attend a session and send a resume to:
Sue Blair, ECCE Coordinator

6. LOST & FOUND
The School of Education Lost & Found is located in the Facilities Office, 1002 SEB. If you find an item in the building, please drop it off or send it to this office. Include a note saying where it was found and when. Likewise, if you are missing something, check here first. Thank you.
7. FACULTY EXPLORATORY SCHEDULE
The Spring/Summer Faculty Exploratory workshop schedule is now available online at http://www.lib.umich.edu/exploratory.
8. CSST REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
The Program in the Comparative Study of Social Transformations (CSST) invites proposals from interdisciplinary groups of faculty interested in developing thematically focused planning projects for the academic year 2003-2004, with the goal of developing a more extended project for the following two years. The winning proposal will have the use of the CSST program budget (currently $15,000) in discretionary spending as well as staff support to develop a more substantial project for subsequent consideration and funding. These proposals, due by June 1, will be evaluated on the basis of the degree to which they extend and transform the original purpose in the formation of CSST. Qualifying groups should be as diverse in all respects as possible. As a minimum requirement, faculty should be drawn from more than two disciplines and more than one broad region of the world. Provision should be made for involving graduate students as the project evolves, but they need not be part of the group making the initial application. Additional information is available online at http://www.umich.edu/~iinet.
