13. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MINUTES
==September 24, 2002 Meeting
*Announcements/Updates
Abby Jewkes reported that Melis Michel would be the third student representative to serve on the Executive Committee.
*Faculty Recruitment
The EC discussed request for an assistant/associate level search in learning technologies. It was noted that good revisions in the Ph.D. program and a new master's program have increased enrollment at the same time that the number of faculty have decreased. Discussion ensued about an open-rank search as well as the impact on the SOE budget situation. A search decision will be made after detailed budget information is available for the EC to develop collective strategies for recruitment and other strategic plans.
*Faculty Retreat
Dean Wixson advised that the preliminary plan for the retreat is to focus discussions on programmatic enhancement as it relates to three areas: academic-based Ph.D. and master's program; both degree and non-degree practice-based programs; and undergraduate programs, including certification programs, minor courses, etc.
*Development/Campaign
Dean Wixson advised that the co-chairs for the SOE campaign were here recently and met with our fundraising consultants to develop the case statement, which will be used with prospective donors to help determine our capacity for fundraising. Dean Wixson and Marilyn Sheperd will engage in conversations with groups of faculty around the Schools draft case statement at the same time as we are getting feedback from prospective donors. This process will be complete by December, at which time we will determine the Schools fund-raising goal for the campaign.
*Non-Tenure Track Practice Appointments
Dean Wixson noted that it is time to revisit our guidelines describing the rights and responsibilities for non-tenure track faculty. It is important that the guidelines be reviewed and revised based upon experience with clinical faculty appointments and in anticipation of upcoming reviews for clinical faculty.
