Chicago Alternative Teaching Pathways

Funding was received from the Joyce Foundation to better understand the landscape of teacher preparation pathways into Chicago Public Schools, with a particular emphasis on alternative routes. Through this two-year study (December, 2015 - December, 2017), Dr. Matsko and Dr. Ronfeldt will investigate key similarities and differences in preparation within and between pathways, including more “traditional” university-based, alternative, and residency programs. Because it has received little prior attention in the literature, the researchers will focus particularly on differences in clinical experiences, including who mentors new teachers, the practices they use, and the quality of their coaching.
