Michele Zmich

Master of Arts in Educational Studies with Elementary Teacher Certification

Field of Study: Master of Arts with Teacher Certification (MAC) - ELMAC

Year in Program: 1st and only

Geographic Region: Canton, MI (Grew up in Detroit though)

Undergraduate: Ladywood High School, MSU

Prior to UM: I worked as the director of several early childhood programs and as a preschool teacher before that. I have over 28 years of experience working with young children. I have also worked as a volunteer girl scout leader, was the state chair for a nonprofit walk-a-thon and have been involved with my children's schools.

The best part of SOE so far: The people are by far the best part of the ELMAC experience. The amazing professors have taught me so much and the people in my cohort are such an incredible, talented and inspirational group. I did not expect to grow so close to them so quickly. The program is intense but we are in it together and doing well.

After graduation: I hope to teach upper elementary or middle school in a nearby school district. I am excited to begin my new career and implement so many of the great ideas I have gathered into a classroom of my own.

Teach me something! Life as a U of M student is what you make of it. There is as little or as much to do as you choose. In our program there is always organizing a group activity for anyone who wants to join. Barbecues, going out for meals, meeting up to play frisbee, checking out a local band, the possibilities are endless. Ann Arbor has so many wonderful opportunities for activities and interaction. The Brandon Center is a favorite place to meet to work on projects or hang between classes, Many in our group are fans of the great outdoors and there are plenty of places in Ann Arbor to canoe, kayak, and picnic.
