Sarah Yecke, School of Education

Field of Study:  MA in Higher Education

Year in Program/Year of Graduation:  graduated 2013

Where do you HAIL from?  Sylvania, OH

Prior degree(s): Vanderbilt University-Psychology and Medicine, Health & Society

Why this program?  I chose UM because I was interested in higher education as a field of study, but was not sure exactly what area to pursue. The program gave me the option to explore a wide array of topics from different perspectives, focusing on "big picture" questions that kept me thinking long after I left class. The internship opportunity also appealed to me because I got to see what a higher education work environment is like and interact with professionals who helped me develop practical skills.

After graduation:  I have worked in Development and Alumni Relations at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the Office of New Student Orientation Programs at the University of Toledo, and currently work as the Program Manager for Student Involvement (also at UT).

The best part of SOE:  Some highlights of my experience within the higher ed program were being taught and mentored by top researchers in their fields of study, engaging classroom discussions with people different from me, and interacting with caring and passionate co-workers at CCI.
