Jonathan McNaughtan, School of Education

Field of Study:  PhD Higher Education—Organizational Behavior

Year in Program/Year of Graduation:  graduated 2016

Where do you HAIL from?  Texas

Prior degree(s):  Southern Utah University-Interpersonal Communication; Stanford University-master's in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies

Before coming to U-M:  I worked as the President's Fellow at Southern Utah University where I did a variety of jobs from planning conferences to running the student conduct system.

Why this program?  The University of Michigan offered a unique opportunity to study higher education from a multidiciplinary approach. The walls between colleges are so open and it allowed me to build relationships across the unviersity. In addition, my interests in organizational decision making and how leaders in higher education are chosen, retained, and interact with campus stakeholders, were easily studied at the U of M.

The best part of SOE:  The resources in the program are unmatched. The library can get you anything, there is financial support to help you focus on your research and make a positive contribution to your area of interest, the colleagues you work with are incredible, and the faculty care about your growth and development.

After graduation:  I was hired as an Assistant Professor of Higher Education at Texas Tech University.

Teach me something!  There is nothing better than the Cider Mills here in Michigan. Every fall they open and the doughnuts and cider are to die for :)
