Field of Study: Educational Studies, PhD - Individually Designed Concentration in Interdisciplinary Elementary Education

Year in Program: 2

Geographic Region: Reston, VA

Undergraduate: Washington University in St. Louis, University of Pennsylvania

Prior to UM: After getting a BFA in sculpture from Wash U., I worked as a faux finisher in the DC area and then a custom resin sculpture/furniture fabricator. After a couple of years in NYC, I moved to Philadelphia and completed the Master's and certification program in Elementary Ed. at Penn. I then taught for four years at Russell Byers Charter school in center city Philadelphia. I taught both 6th grade science and social studies, and 4th grade classes.

The best part of SOE so far: The incredibly supportive faculty

After graduation: I'd like to work in an environment where I can create and test out curricula with a focus on interdisciplinary education.

Teach me something! Getting a dog has been the best study aid for me so far, its great to have an excuse to take a break every once and a while to go outside and talk a walk. There are also great dog parks in Ann Arbor and many woodsy parks to go on day hikes and get some fresh air.
