Caitlin Koska

Master of Arts in Educational Studies with Elementary Teacher Certification

Field of Study: Master of Arts with Teacher Certification (MAC) - ELMAC with an ESL endorsement

Year in Program: Year 1

Geographic Region: Naperville, IL

Undergraduate: Neuqua Valley High School, Pepperdine University

Prior to UM: Prior to coming to the University of Michigan, I attended Pepperdine University and worked for an arts non-profit for two years after graduating. I coached Girls on the Run, taught summer school in Detroit, and volunteered for a literacy program. Through these experiences, I quickly realized that I wanted to be in the classroom and that the Elementary Masters and Certification or ELMAC program was the best route.

The best part of SOE so far: The SOE community is incredible. The high level of care and knowledge demonstrated by our professors on a daily basis is truly amazing. Being a part of the ELMAC cohort this year has been a supportive, encouraging, and a collaborative experience.

After graduation: After graduating, I hope to stay in Southeastern Michigan to teach in a K-8 classroom.

Teach me something! Get to know your cohort and professors. Remember, when you’re student teaching you create your own experience. Take advantage of everything! Don’t forget to take time for yourself. Walks or runs in the Arboretum are a phenomenal way to decompress.
