Graduate Student Research Assistant
Stefanie Iwashyna’s research interests include practice-based teacher education, especially issues involved in defining and assessing ambitious practice for novice teachers working in urban schools. Previously, she was a research assistant for the Elementary Educative Curriculum for Teachers of Science (ELECTS) Project, an NSF-funded study of the use of educative curriculum materials to support ambitious science instruction with Principal Investigators Elizabeth Davis and Annemarie Palincsar. She teaches in the University of Michigan’s Elementary Teacher Education Program, including the courses Managing to Teach and Facilitating Classroom Discussions. Stefanie holds a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and Policy from the University of Michigan. Before graduate school, she was a field supervisor for the Elementary Master’s/Teacher Certification program at the University of Pennsylvania. She taught first grade and Pre-kindergarten in the Chicago Public Schools.
