Ian Baker

Master of Arts in Higher Education

Ian Baker, School of Education

Field of Study: MA in Higher Education - Individually Designed

Year in Program: 2nd Year (part-time)

Where do you HAIL from? Kalamazoo, MI

Prior degree(s): B.A. in History, University of Michigan

Before coming to UM: Before enrolling in the CSHPE M.A. program, I was employed full-time as an alumni relations officer here at U-M.

Why your program? I was drawn to the program by the strength of its academic offerings. I knew that I wanted a rigorous program that would allow me to go "behind the scenes" of higher education. CSHPE has definitely delivered on that.

The best part of SOE so far: The flexibility of the degree. You can really take the M.A. and make it your own, studying what exactly it is that interests you. With the wealth of resources available at U-M, it's hard to imagine that one of your interests isn't represented somewhere on campus.

After graduation: Ask me in a couple of years :)

Teach me something! I love taking advantage of Ann Arbor's great restaurant scene. For a city of 115,000, Ann Arbor definitely punches above its weight for food. I also recommend spending some time in Detroit--the city is buzzing with activity, has amazing sources of food and entertainment, and is the birthplace of the University of Michigan, too.
