Minh Huynh

Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Studies, Educational Foundations and Policy

Field of Study: Educational Studies, PhD - Educational Foundations and Policy

Year in Program: Second

Geographic Region: Da Lat, Lam Dong, Viet Nam

Undergraduate: Thang Long High School, The University of Da Lat

Prior to UM: I taught English and Education at the School of Education, University of Da Lat, for six years, from October 2005 to November 2011. After that, I worked in a community development project that aims at improving the livelihoods of ethnic communities in Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, Da Lat, Viet Nam, from December 2011 to July 2012. From September 2012 to June 2013, I was a Fulbright student to the U.S., studying for a Master's Degree in Educational Studies at the University of Michigan.

The best part of SOE so far: The academic and social atmosphere! It's hard to imagine that you get to "hang around" world-renowned scholars in almost every field we have here, and they are so super nice and friendly.

After graduation: I plan to work in policy consultancy and advocacy for a two or three years to help improve education quality and equity in Viet Nam, and after that get back to the academic world of teaching and research.

Teach me something! The thing I appreciate about University of Michigan and Ann Arbor is that it is full of arts. There's arts everywhere. Spend some time to explore the museums on campus, the theaters, the libraries, the concerts, the planetariums. Hang around arts students, pick up the guitar, the camera, or the paintbrushes. Explore your artistic self, and it will keep you safe and sane from the Michigan grad school workload. ;)
