Master of Arts in Higher Education, '14

Linh Huynh, School of Education

Field of Study: MA Higher Education

Year in Program: graduated 2014

Where do you HAIL from?  Los Angeles, CA

Prior degree(s): University of California, Santa Barbara-Comparative Literature and Psychology

Before coming to U-M:  I was an undergraduate student at UC Santa Barbara, where I also worked as a Student Mentor at the Educational Opportunity Program, providing advising and programming support for first-generation, low-income students.

Why this program?  I was looking for a program that provides breadth, as well as the flexibility to focus on issues of interest, and CSHPE was the best fit for me.

The best part of SOE:  Connecting with folks who care so much for the field, who come from an array of experiences and backgrounds and bring different perspectives to the program.

After graduation: I am currently working as a Senior Academic Advisor in the department of Mechanical Engineering here at U-M. My role allows me to work with undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral students--providing academic advising, mentoring, and support through students' time in the program.

I am deeply interested in issues of access and equity, specifically understanding the experiences of historically underserved and underrepresented student populations: barriers, challenges, as well as factors that contribute to students' resiliency and success. I hope to continue learning more about these issues through my professional career as well as, in the near future, pursuing my Ph.D.

Teach me something! I enjoy exploring the U-M campus and local Ann Arbor and finding hidden study/hangout spots. One of my favorite local coffee shops is Sweetwaters--I spent (and still do) many days and nights writing papers, reading, and connecting with friends there during my graduate study!
