Danny Hurvitz

Bachelor of Arts with Elementary Teacher Certification

Field of Study: Undergraduate with Teacher Certification - Elementary Dducation, Mathematics Certification

Year in Program: Second year

Geographic Region: West Bloomfield, MI

Undergraduate: Andover High School

Prior to UM: Prior to U of M I participated in forensics in high school, as well as acting in the musicals, singing with the choir and playing with the marching band. I volunteered for Safety Town as an instructor and worked two jobs: one as a bubble tea barista, and one as a host at an upscale deli.
The best part of SOE so far: The best part of the School of Education is the range of opportunity it provides. I have been able to see many classes of students with many different racial and financial backgrounds. I have been able to compare the same aged classroom with differing socio-economic status. The School of Education at the University of Michigan has allowed me to enter the classroom setting from day one-something that is unique to this University. Having the opportunity to not only learn about theories of pedagogy, but also apply them in a real life setting has been a key component of learning about myself as a teacher.

After graduation: I am hoping to spend a year in Rishon Letzion, Israel teaching English to younger students. After that I would like to move to a new state (just to try something new!) and teach lower elementary there. As of right now my preferred grade is Kindergarten.

Teach me something! I am a member of an a cappella group on campus and have performed with the MUSKET cast of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. It's important as a new student to not let your degree define you as a person. It is important to get involved in Educational opportunities; I am the community chair of Kappa Delta Pi and love participating in their events. It is equally as important, however, to not give up the other things you are passionate about and to not be afraid to try new things! There are so many great clubs and people on this campus, it would be a shame to not try to do as many things as possible while you are here. Don't be afraid of a busy schedule!
