Student Status: Alum, graduated 2015

Geographic Region: Downers Grove, Illinois (suburb of Chicago)

Education prior to Ed Studies MA: Downers Grove North High School, Wheaton College in IL

Prior to joining the program: I like to travel, read, write, hike, and visit coffee shops. :) I studied elementary education because I love teaching and working with children. I have counseled at camp, mentored high school students, tutored refugees, and taught junior kindergarten, kindergarten, and grades 6-8 in two private schools in IL and CA.

Highlights of the Michigan experience

The best part about the School of Education is definitely the people. Everyone I've met in the School of Education is kind and supportive. The professors are world-class, brilliant, experienced, engaging, and challenging, but approachable. I have learned so much from the other students in my cohort as well. There are students from so many different backgrounds and experiences, and everyone has something valuable to contribute. It's such a joy to learn from such great teachers alongside my colleagues.

I love to walk around U of M's beautiful campus. There are so many opportunities for lectures and further learning here too. I spend most of my time reading in Starbucks. When I'm not doing that, I'm either in class or writing in Starbucks :), but our cohort likes to go out and try new places in Ann Arbor - we've gotten pretty close. I went to the cider mill, apple picking, and walked around the arboretum recently - the Huron River is gorgeous in the fall. The Ann Arbor farmer's market is also fun. This is a great town. Everything I need is only 5 minutes away (which can be dangerous when it comes to shopping, at least for me!). :)
