Hillary Goldsmith

Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Teacher Education

Hillary Goldsmith, School of Education

Field of Study: Elementary Education

Year in Program: 1st year

Age: 20

Geographic Region: Ohio

Prior to UM: I was a student at seven hills school in Cincinnati Ohio. I played tennis basketball and was a competitive horseback rider. I have spent the last 12 summers in Maine as a camper and now a unit leader.

Why your program? I chose teaching because I feel this is the best way to leave an impact on the next generation and change the future for the better. Getting the chance to see a child who was struggling who is now flourishing is a very rewarding feeling.

The best part of SOE so far: I love the community and getting the chance to meet a bunch of people from different backgrounds and places who all want to work with kids. I also enjoy the one on one attention and the personal connection to the staff and the Dean.

After graduation: I plan on getting my masters and maybe being a principal or college counselor. I know I would love to work with either young kids or college age students.

Teach me something! My advice would be to put yourself out there. Join a lot of things, talk to a lot of people, and try things that may be out of your comfort zone. Who knows what you will find that you never thought you would enjoy. There is so much to offer, take advantage of it!
