Prior to UM: Prior to coming to the University of Michigan to study education, I was teaching imaginary students in my pretend school in my basement. That, and I graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 2012.

Why your program? I chose elementary teacher education because I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I have a deep passion for children and instilling the same love of learning in them that I have developed throughout my school years. I believe every child should have the right to an excellent education, and I want to be an excellent teacher for every child I meet.

The best part of SOE so far: I love the people! The professors and the students are all incredibly friendly and share the same goal of creating excellent teachers. I have made some of my best friends at Michigan through the Teacher Education Preferred Admit Program (TEPA), and met my favorite professors through education classes I have taken.

After graduation: I have this idea that I want to go to inner-city Chicago and work in a low-income neighborhood through AUSL's Chicago Teacher Residency. However, I am not from Chicago nor the city, so that is still up in the air. Eventually I would love to end up back in Michigan, teaching in an elementary school (maybe my own?!) close to home.

Teach me something! Take advantage of the Passport to the Arts (provided every two weeks at the Office of New Student Programs in the LSA Building). It is a great way to see performances, shows, concerts, movies etc. at Michigan on a college student budget... free! Also, The Ark on Main Street has some great concerts, and occasionally they have free shows on Tuesdays (Take a Chance Tuesday). I saw one of my new favorite artists on a Take a Chance Tuesday, and then she came back a year later for a paid show!
