Prior to UM: Before coming to UM for graduate school I was a substitute teacher/office assistant at Towsley Children's House just down the street from the School of Education. I became interested in teaching at that time because toddlers and preschoolers are adorable.

Why your program? I chose Secondary Education because I want to be able to engage my students with the course content in a fun way. I chose French, specifically, because I have been exposed to the langauge since I was 10 years old. I think it is important for students to be exposed to other cultures and how other people in the world live in order for them to be good citizens and be informed members of our ever-changing global society.

The best part of SOE so far: The closeness of the World Language Cohort of my MAC program. We are not just classmates, and not just student-teachers, we are friends and colleagues. We have grown together and being able to do that while completing an intense program knowing you're not alone is a huge deal. It's great to have the support of people you collaborate with on a regular basis.

After graduation: I plan on getting a job in Michigan or northern Indiana, Illinois, or Ohio to teach secondary French. I have also been thinking about going back to school for a PhD, but I want to have my own classroom first. Possibly looking into becoming a teacher educator.

Teach me something! This is a hard question... I say go somewhere quiet and away from campus every so often. Maybe to a nearby park or something, and listen to the birds. Sometimes it's hard to remember how to relax. Also, get a massage. You'll never be the same after!
