Teacher Education Preferred Admit (TEPA), Second Year

Field of Study: Teacher Education Preferred Admission (TEPA) - I hope to do Secondary Education with a History Major and Psychology Minor

Year in Program: Second

Geographic Region: Pittsburgh, PA

Undergraduate: Upper Saint Clair High School

Prior to UM: During my last two years of high school, I worked as a teacher's assistant at a day care facility where I worked with children ages 1-12. During my last year of high school, I volunteered as a tutor for eighth graders in both math and reading. I also volunteered at both my local library in the children's section as well as in citywide interfaith events involving my sunday school. I also played tennis in middle and part of high school.

The best part of SOE so far: So far, I have really enjoyed getting to meet people in my classes who have the same major as me. Since education majors tend to have to take the same classes, I have been able to make friends with people who have schedules very similar to mine. It is really nice to be able to have some classes with familiar faces in such a big school, especially since many of us are passionate about the same topics.

After graduation: Hopefully after I graduate I will be able to get a master's in education, though I am not sure if I want to wait a few years to do so or not. I may also be interested in applying to Teach for America or even teaching abroad, but my main goal is to end up with a teaching job that I love and to be the best teacher I can be!

Teach me something! If you are interested in having fun at Michigan, it is useful to have some ideas for what to do in the snow. Some of the best nights I had last year involved sledding in the Arb! While it can get pretty cold, the hills in the Arb work well for even makeshift sleds, like trashcan lids, and are definitely worth the chill! Since the Arb is located between North and Central Campus, you can try this no matter where you live - as long as you can find hot chocolate afterwards!
