Nasreen Alhassan

Bachelor of Arts with Elementary Teacher Certification

Field of Study: Undergraduate with Teacher Certification in Elementary Education - Mathematics

Year in Program: Year 1

Geographic Region: Dearborn, MI

Undergraduate: Fordson Highschool, American School of Correspondence, Henry Ford Community College

Prior to UM: Prior to UM, I have had a great deal of work experience in schools, mentoring children, tutoring, customer service, and a great deal of volunteer work. I spent four years traveling and studying abroad as well. This really helped me build my social skills and opened up my eyes to different cultures, backgrounds, and people.

The best part of SOE so far: Now that I am in the teachers education program, I am in serious love with all my classes! I can study this material all day, everyday! I am so very passionate about the psychological domains as they relate to children. With that said, learning about cognition, and behavior alongside social aspects of children and being able to see it all first hand during my time at my practicum. This is ultimately my favorite part; interacting with the children and building relationships with them.

After graduation: I hope to further my knowledge and expertise in the education field and pursue a masters degree in foundations and policy. I would love to be able to have a say in the education system and find ways to help improve it for the better.

Teach me something! I sing! I love to sing! This past summer, I won the UROP talent show. Throughout high school, I was in women's choir and I won female vocalist of 2008. I also love to play around with hair and makeup, although i'm not great. I'm a busy gal always trying to stay on top.
