A randomized-controlled trial conducted by Michael N. Bastedo and Nicholas A. Bowman of the University of Iowa (CSHPE PhD ’08) showed that when college admissions officers had detailed information on applicants’ high schools, they were more likely to admit students from low-income families. The experiment is examined in a story in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
