Sarah Thomson awarded Outstanding Grad Student Paper by AERA

A paper by graduate student Sarah Thomson has won the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Teaching History Special Interest Group. Thomson’s paper is titled “A More Natural Act: Exploring Intersections Between Adolescents’ Historical Thinking and Historical Consciousness.”

Edward A. Silver named a 2016 AERA Fellow

Edward A. Silver has been named a 2016 Fellow by the American Educational Research Association (AERA). He is one of 22 scholars to receive the honor this year. Selected for their notable and sustained research achievements, fellows were nominated by their peers, selected by the AERA Fellows Committee, and approved by the AERA Council, the association’s elected governing body.

A scholarship from the Minerva Education and Development Foundation (MEDF) of Detroit has been awarded to SOE master’s student Christina DeBianchi. The Carol Sayer Puryear Educational Leadership Scholarship provides funds to assist master’s or post-master’s students who are studying educational leadership or administration.

Alum leads team that won state award for high school history class

Secondary MAC alumnus Adam Hellebuyck (MA ’07), who is now the social studies chair at University Liggett School (Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan), led a team that won a State History Award for Educational Programs from the Historical Society of Michigan.
