On May 12, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Tribute Room, there will be a special meeting of the Teacher Education Initiative to which all interested members of the SOE community are invited. The TEI Equitable Instruction Working Group has been working all year on how attention to equitable instruction could be included in our redesigned teacher education curriculum. They have drawn on the expertise of our speakers who came to present in the TEI Seminar Series this year, which focused on this crucial aspect of effective teaching, as well as drawing on other experience and resources.  At the special meeting on Wednesday, members of the group will share their recommendations for ways to tightly integrate attention to issues of equity and diversity into subject-specific academic instruction.  This is a central part of our program redesign, which aims to prepare “subject matter-serious” teachers who are skillful at helping all students achieve at high levels and who are active on issues of diversity and equity.  Please try to attend this important discussion. Light refreshments will be served and there will be ample time for questions and discussion by all.
