TeachingWorks streaming seminar series to launch with a talk by H. Richard Milner IV on September 13

On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, TeachingWorks will launch its year-long streaming seminar series. This year’s series will focus closely on the intersection of teaching practice and equity. Each talk will center on one high-leverage practice, and will investigate and illuminate the enactment of the practice, and the ways in which issues of equity and inclusion are fundamental to the practice itself. Building out from the careful definition of the practice, each speaker will examine core dilemmas inherent in the work of enacting the practice with students and content. In so doing we will, together, make visible the ways in which equity issues play out inside of each of the high-leverage practices.

The first seminar, “Inside Teaching: A Powerful Force for Equity,” will be held on Tuesday, September 13, from 4:10 to 6:00 p.m. in Prechter (room 2202). It will feature H. Richard Milner IV, Helen Faison Endowed Chair of Urban Education, professor of education, professor of social work (by courtesy), professor of sociology (by courtesy), professor of Africana studies (by courtesy), and director of the Center for Urban Education, University of Pittsburgh. All are welcome; light refreshments will be served. A registration link will be available soon.
