A survey conducted by the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good shows that public colleges are more likely than private colleges to admit undocumented students as a matter of policy, but the private colleges are more likely to offer undocumented students financial aid.

Thirty-six percent of public colleges and 21 percent of private colleges reported policies that allow undocumented students to enroll; 29 percent of public colleges and 57 percent of private colleges provide the undocumented students with financial assistance.

An article about the survey was posted on the Chronicle of Higher Education's website on July 17, 2011.
