Community-wide viewing of Waiting for Superman to be held on November 3

Please remember that there will be a community-wide viewing of the film, Waiting for "Superman," at the Michigan Theater (603 East Liberty) on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. This event will be co-sponsored by the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, the Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy (CLOSUP), the Institute for Social Research, the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, and the School of Education. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the Michigan Theater on the day of the screening.

Following the film, a panel representing a range of perspectives will discuss issues surfaced by the movie. I will serve as moderator of the panel. Participants are:

  • Susan Dynarski, associate professor of education, School of Education; associate professor of public policy, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy
  • Michael Flanagan, superintendent of public instruction, Michigan Department of Education
  • Brian Rowan, Burke A. Hinsdale Collegiate Professor, School of Education; research professor, Institute for Social Research
  • Tyrone Winfrey, director, U-M Office of Undergraduate Admissions – Detroit Admissions Office; vice-president, Detroit Board of Education
