I was pleased to see so many from the School of Education community at the special screening of "Waiting for 'Superman'" on Wednesday. The documentary was interesting and provocative and the panel discussion following the film likely helped to stimulate further discussion, curiosity, and engagement. I would like to extend my thanks to the panel participants for their time, expertise, and thoughtful engagement with the film. Panelists included:

  • Susan Dynarski, associate professor of education, School of Education; associate professor of public policy, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy
  • Michael Flanagan, superintendent of public instruction, Michigan Department of Education
  • Brian Rowan, Burke A. Hinsdale Collegiate Professor, School of Education; research professor, Institute for Social Research
  • Brit Satchwell, president of the Ann Arbor Education Association; high school mathematics teacher
  • Tyrone Winfrey, director, U-M Office of Undergraduate Admissions – Detroit Admissions Office; vice-president, Detroit Board of Education
