SecMAC alumna Holly Hereau named Michigan Science Teacher of the Year

Secondary MAC alumna and long-time SOE mentor, Holly Hereau, was named the 2019 High School Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Science Teachers Association (MSTA). A teacher at South Redford Thurston High School, Ms. Hereau's students are currently working on a watershed project on the district grounds. Her class planned the project with the help of the Dan Wolz Clean Water Education Grant that Holly was also recently awarded by the MSTA.

She has also been actively engaged in the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in her district’s schools as well as with her peers at the state and national level.

In the Teacher of the Year selection process, MSTA looks for teachers who model best practices, demonstrate innovative teaching strategies, and who are excellent role models and an inspiration to students and teachers. Hereau will be recognized for these and other contributions to science education at the MSTA Annual Science Conference in March.
