Tags: deans updates

Please take advantage of the many opportunities available across campus in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. For a list of events, visit the University’s OAMI site.

We would like to bring your attention to three programs planned for today:

The MLK Children and Youth Program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Modern Language Building. This event, featuring Dr. Joseph Kimbrough, brings elementary, middle, and high school students from throughout Washtenaw county and southeastern Michigan to participate in a full day of rich educational and engaging experiences to commemorate the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and its significance in our history.

The MLK Symposium Keynote Memorial Lecture will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Hill Auditorium. The University community is pleased to welcome Golden Globe nominee Issa Rae, writer, producer, and star of the hit HBO series Insecure, and Amy Goodman, award winning investigative journalist, author, syndicated columnist, and host of Democracy Now!, as speakers for the keynote memorial lecture.
This event will be live-streamed and can be viewed in Prechter.

One Drop of Love is a multimedia solo performance by Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni (SOE alumna) and will be held at Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This extraordinary one-woman show incorporates filmed images, photographs and animation to tell the story of how the notion of ‘race’ came to be in the United States and how it affects our most intimate relationships.
