Matthew Ronfeldt is co-author on a feature article, "The Test Matters," in the new issue of Educational Researcher. In it, he and his collaborators use Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) data to examine the relationships between two measures commonly used to assess teaching quality – observational ratings and value-added to student achievement (VAM). They find that observational measures designed to capture more ambitious instruction were more highly correlated with VAM when the latter was based upon cognitively demanding student assessments.
