This winter and spring, TeachingWorks will sponsor two special colloquia for members of the School of Education community. These colloquia are intended to provide an opportunity for all of us to learn more about some of the innovative activities taking place in our own teacher education programs. The first colloquium will be on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Tribute Room (room 1322). This session will focus on SOE’s partnership with Teach for America and will feature Kendra Hearn, clinical assistant professor and coordinator of the Teach for America-Detroit Teacher Education Program, Kristi Holmstrom, lecturer and research investigator, Jean Mrachko, doctoral student and lead field instructor, and Kiel McQueen, doctoral student and ePortfolio system manager.

The second colloquium will be on Wednesday, April 25, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Whitney Room (room 1309/1315). This session will focus on performance assessments in the elementary teacher education program, and will feature Tim Boerst, clinical associate professor, and his colleagues. They will provide an overview of the performance assessments being developed and used in the SOE’s teacher education programs, including preliminary learning from assessments completed in the winter 2013 semester.

Participation in these colloquia is open to the entire SOE community. Light refreshments will be served. For questions about the colloquia series or suggestions for future presenters or topics, please contact Punita Dani Thurman.
