On September 1, Carla O’Connor, professor of education and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, will join the Dean’s Office as associate dean for academic affairs. Through her teaching and mentoring, Carla has always demonstrated a deep commitment to the scholarly and personal development of our students. I know that she will bring that orientation to her new role and I am delighted that she has agreed to serve as part of the team in the dean’s office. Carla will succeed Annemarie Sullivan Palincsar, professor of education, Jean and Charles Walgreen Professor of Reading and Literacy, and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, who has served the school as the associate dean for academic affairs since July 2009. I am deeply grateful to Annemarie for her service in this role and for the significant initiatives she has advanced, including our strategic assessment process; it has been both an honor and a pleasure to work with her. She has helped me in innumerable ways, and has taught me a great deal.

Please join me in welcoming Carla and thanking Annemarie!
