On Saturday, March 16, 2013, as part of the Educational Studies Campus Visit Day, the SOE Office of Student Affairs, Becoming Educators of Tomorrow, and the Rackham Graduate School will sponsor a breakfast for current and admitted students and faculty focused on issues of diversity. The breakfast will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and will include a panel discussion, “Fostering Diversity Through Mentorship: A Panel Discussion of Developmental Practices that Facilitate Students' Research, Teaching, and Scholarly Activism.” I will moderate the panel of faculty and students as we explore the role of mentorship in forwarding the SOE’s commitment to preparing students to advance diversity and equity in research, policy, and practice. We will discuss the ways that mentorship in the SOE and the scholarship, teaching, and activism it produces prepare students to contribute to policy, practice, and local and national discourse on diversity and social justice in the field of education. A full breakfast will be served so RSVP online if you plan to attend.
