On Wednesday, December 14, Maria Coolican, lecturer and project director for the Ann Arbor Languages Partnership and candidate for the clinical faculty position in world language instruction, will present on her work. Her talk, “An Intersection of Interests: The Millennial Generation and the Ann Arbor Languages Partnership,” will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the Tribute Room (room 1322).

Dr. Coolican’s presentation will highlight some preliminary findings from the Ann Arbor Languages Partnership, our collaboration with the local school district. In this partnership, U-M undergraduates teach Spanish in local 3rd and 4th grade public school classrooms. This joint venture is, in part, an experiment with alternative instruction in our approach to preparing teachers in world languages. One of the goals of the program is to capitalize on millennial students’ orientation toward collaboration, knowledge creation, and social justice in providing world language instruction to public elementary schoolchildren.

I hope you will attend what promises to be an interesting presentation.
