Conflict and Peace Initiative to host Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

The International Institute’s Conflict and Peace Initiative—co-directed by Professor Michelle Bellino—and the Penny Stamps Distinguished Speaker Series are hosting an event featuring Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. They will present about their National Book Award-winning graphic novel trilogy March, which recounts Lewis’s first-hand experience in the Civil Rights movement. The event will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Michigan Theater on September 21.

An ongoing series of Fall 2017 events including book clubs, local school programs, community dialogues, a library exhibit about Bloody Sunday, a social justice comics contest, a screening of Selma, a social justice research symposium, and much more, is being organized across campus in connection to this keynote presentation. The goal is to inspire critical reflection on social justice advocacy and spark actions that catalyze change.

Michelle J. Bellino is Assistant Professor
