U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell cited research conducted by Christina Weiland and several others in an op-ed extolling the virtues of the Head Start program.

“Research unequivocally shows that high-quality early learning programs can set the course for children’s success throughout their life,” Burwell wrote. “We hope that leaders in Congress will continue to help us make this crucial investment in our future.”

The research Weiland and nine others conducted makes a compelling case that preschool education has a significant impact on children’s early learning, and that it provides stimulating and supportive interactions between teachers and children.
