All faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the university's MHealthy service

It is very important that as many SOE faculty and staff as possible participate in MHealthy, an important service being offered by the University of Michigan. MHealthy Rewards gives qualifying benefits-eligible faculty and staff the opportunity to learn about their health and take action throughout the year to achieve personal health goals. MHealthy Rewards is designed to encourage us to move more, eat right, manage stress, be tobacco-free, and prevent and manage health conditions.  Even if you opt not to participate in the rewards part of the program, we are asking that you complete the 2010 health questionnaire.

As of March 13, just under 30 percent of School of Education faculty and staff had completed the survey. Thank you to those of you who did it, but we need to do even better. The university has set a goal of at least 50 percent participation and we need to do our part in reaching that goal. The deadline for completing the survey and enrolling in MHealthy Rewards is April 9. Once enrolled, you can receive credit for activities throughout 2010.

Not only can your participation help improve your health, but also MHealthy Rewards will provide the university with longitudinal data that contribute to the study of the health of our faculty and staff community and the impact of employer-sponsored health and well-being programs. To get an accurate reflection of the university’s health profile, it is important that even those who consider themselves healthy and active participate in MHealthy Rewards.

MHealthy Rewards can be completed in three simple steps:

  1. Complete your 2010 health questionnaire by April 9, 2010. It takes less than 15 minutes and you will be able to view your personal health report immediately. At this time, this is the most important step to take. If you miss the April 9 deadline, you won’t be eligible for participation. All of the information you provide in your questionnaire will remain confidential.  This is the minimum participation that we are asking  of everyone.

But these parts are also really useful:

  1. Complete two eligible health and well-being activities by December 3, 2010. There are a wide variety of activities that anyone can do, including on-line programs, Weight Watchers, MHealthy Fitness Consults, stress management programs, tobacco treatment programs, tracking your physical activity, and much more. In the coming months, we will present more information on these options at staff and faculty meetings.
  2. Receive $100 (before taxes) in your paycheck for completing the program. Use the incentive to treat yourself, donate to your favorite charity or a worthwhile cause, surprise someone you value with a token of appreciation, or whatever you choose.

You can view a step-by-step instructional video for further information and details.

If you have questions or encounter any difficulties with the questionnaire or with signing up for well-being activities, of if you would like to provide feedback on the program, please email MHealthy.

I hope you will join me and many of your fellow colleagues in making a commitment to your health and wellness.
