A message from Dean Deborah Loewenberg Ball

Tags: ball, teaching and learning

This is Teacher Appreciation Week. It’s a time to give thanks to those professionals who dedicate their lives to helping children and youth develop. Even when our society seems at times not to realize the complexity of skillful teaching, teachers make incredible contributions to our nation’s future by growing its young people. Teachers challenge children intellectually, nurture the critical thinking skills of youth, and help young people achieve their goals and aspirations. Teachers help to make people.

The School of Education seeks to advance our nation’s understanding and appreciation of teaching and teachers. Our faculty, students, and staff are committed to the study, improvement, and promotion of education practice, and to the advancement of diversity and social justice. We strive to contribute through our research and our teaching of future educators. And we collaborate with other educators, and in a range of communities. Together we can promote the practice of teaching and the amazing people who do it, and help our country appreciate their fundamental importance.

Take a moment this week to think about the teachers who made a difference in your life. Send a short message to a teacher who was important to you, helped you grow, or stretched your vision of yourself and what would be possible to do and to learn.
