Secondary MAC One-to-One Technology Initiative
Introduction - Records of Practice - Support
A collaborative effort of the Secondary Master of Arts with Certification (MAC) program, the Teacher Education Initiative, and SoE Technology Services, the One-to-One Technology Initiative seeks to enable preservice teachers to use technologies to access, study, and learn from and about the practice of teaching. Preservice teachers involved in the Initiative are learning to adapt and improve their practice over time through critical study and collegial examination of teaching (their own and others’) using “records of practice,” including video and audio recordings of classroom interactions, images of student work samples, copies of lesson plans, and other classroom artifacts. The Initiative also supports preservice teachers’ use of computing and digital media technologies in their instruction.
The goals of the One-to-One Initiative are aligned with the Teacher Education Initiative’s ongoing efforts to improve the professional education of teachers at the University of Michigan and beyond.
The One-to-One Initiative:
- supports beginning teachers in learning to document, interpret, and improve their practice through the study of digital records of practice,
- contributes to building a curriculum for teacher education that integrates the use of digital records of practice, and
- investigates the infrastructure and technology services needed to support one-to-one laptop use by teacher education students and the use of digital records of practice for analyzing and improving teaching practice.
