Student and Programmatic Support
- Endowed Scholarships for Master of Arts with Certification (MAC) Program
This intensive program enables the School of Education to provide highly skilled and trained teachers who have work experience in other professions…one of the most urgent needs of today’s schools.
Faculty Support
- Endowed Chair For English Language Learning
There is a tremendous need in Michigan and throughout the country for teachers to be trained to meet the special needs of newly arrived non-English-speaking immigrants. An endowed chair for teaching the disciplines enables recruitment of education faculty with interest and expertise in pedagogy from a disciplinary perspective.
Technology Support
- Wireless Technology Replacement and Enhancement
- HiCE (http://www.hi-ce.org/
)
This investment in technology enables the School to facilitate distance learning, collaboration, and community outreach throughout the State of Michigan and beyond, especially in the K-12 environment.
Outreach Initiatives
- CIERA
- LUCY (Lives of Urban Children and Youth)
- Superintendents’ Summer Institute
The School of Education is trying to sustain several aspects of CIERA’s interactions with practitioners: an informative web site and a 5-day intensive summer institute attended by school-based practitioners and state department personnel. The LUCY Initiative provides courses and co-curricular activities that permit students to make connections between their academic inquiry and their civic engagement. Superintendents’ Summer institute provides opportunities for superintendents to experience diverse perspectives on issues and develop leadership and problem solving strategies.
