School of Education Mini Grants for Student Research

The School of Education provides up to $1,000 in financial resources over the length of your program to cover your research-related needs that are not covered by fellowships, grants, or other sources of financial assistance.  If you previously applied for less than $1,000 of the mini-grant, you may reapply to be considered for the remaining amount.  Appropriate requests include the following:

  1. Support for travel for conducting research (e.g., archival work, interviews -not conference presentations).
  2. Payment of royalty fees or fees for special training workshops/courses (e.g., Institute for Social Research summer programs).
  3. Purchase of analytical software (if not already available on U-M computers).

When do I apply?

Applications for Winter 2018 decisions are accepted through December 2017 (exact date TBD).

Applications for Spring/Summer 2018 decisions are accepted February 2018 through March 2018 (exact dates TBD). 

Who can I apply?

Applicants must be Educational Studies graduate students in good standing at the time of application. Preference will be given to first-time awardees or awardees who have not requested the $1,000 maximum, applicants who have achieved doctoral candidacy and students who have already availed themselves of support from the Rackham Graduate Student Research Grant program. Any Educational Studies student engaged in research and scholarship beyond the level generally expected in a course is eligible to apply as well.
