Forms and Procedures for Educational Studies Graduate Degree Programs

For the Master's Degree:

Change of Advisor Form (11 KB Adobe PDF)This link opens up in a new window: A student is assigned a temporary advisor upon admission. However, the student may change directions and need a new advisor to best support those interests. A change of advisor is negotiated between the student and the faculty member, requiring both members to agree on the arrangement. Should a situation arise that requires the student to work with another faculty member as advisor, it is the student’s responsibility to locate another advisor and obtain his/her agreement.

•Grad Tools: Grad Tools is a collaborative tool to assist the graduate student in navigating the steps along the way to the PhD. Grad Tools is a part of the CTools environment which showcases an interactive checklist containing all of the required Rackham steps to degree conferral. We have added program information to the Rackham steps to create a more complete checklist for your use. You may also add your own individualized steps to make the checklist most useful for tracking your progress. To access Grad Tools, log into the CTools environment ( https://ctools.umich.edu/portal ) and choose Grad Tools from the list of workspaces.

Time to Degree Policy Statement: The Rackham Graduate School strongly encourages the student to achieve candidacy within four years and requires completion of all requirements within seven years from the date of first enrollment.

Most students in the School of Education complete their degrees in less than seven years—usually in five, and sometimes in four.
