What I’ve learned in the program: Throughout my graduate coursework at UM, I learned that I really did not know as much as I thought I did when I entered the program. By taking courses, participating in various research groups, and serving as a graduate student instructor, I learned to deepen my thinking about education issues and to move away from making claims based solely on my previous classroom experiences. Perhaps more importantly, though, I learned that the people in my classes and research groups are going to be my colleagues in the field over the next several years. So, cultivating these relationships with other graduate students is essential to not only getting through graduate school, but also to creating a diverse group of colleagues to interact with throughout my career.
