An Educators Workshop

Narrowing the Achievement Gap: Culturally Responsive Pedagogy

One of the most trenchant areas of concern among educators and researchers is the test score gap, or the general tendency for White and Asian students to score higher on standardized measures of achievement than their Black peers. Eliminating the test score gap must be a national priority in order to ensure that all students are adequately prepared for college, the workforce, and participation in our nation's democracy. This workshop will examine school factors associated with the achievement gap, and present possible solutions that focus on instructional quality and the implementation of culturally responsive pedagogy in classrooms.

Presenter: Jacqueline Jordan Irvine: Candler Professor of Urban Education, Emory University
Sponsors: School of Education, Office of Government Relations & Office of Communications
Date and Time: 5/8/2004 - 9:00–11:30 a.m.
