CSHPE 50th Anniversary: National Conference
National Conference
“Understanding and Strengthening Higher Education’s Contributions to a Changing Society”
March 22-25, 2007
The 2007 academic year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CSHPE, one of the first of its kind in an American university. We are commemorating our anniversary by hosting several major events, including a three-part series of Distinguished Scholar lectures, an Inaugural Event, a National Conference, and an Alumni Celebration.
The National Conference will bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from within and outside of higher education to address the conference theme, Understanding and Strengthening the Contributions of Higher Education to a Changing Society. The conference will begin with a keynote address on the challenges requiring higher education’s contribution to a changing society. Three specific themes will be addressed during the following two days on higher education’s contribution to societal concerns about economic development, the increasing diversity of society, and advancing knowledge. Each session will feature an address by a national speaker and a panel of respondents from the scholarly field of higher education and faculty from the University of Michigan and CSHPE. A series of breakout sessions on each theme will be led by CSHPE faculty. In the closing session, the Distinguished Scholars from our fall lecture series will synthesize the discussions and ideas from each of the three thematic sessions and examine the role for higher education’s contribution in the future.
All who are interested in the future of higher education are welcome to join us. Senior executive officers who are interested in discussing ways to reshape their institutions to meet current challenges are particularly encouraged to attend.
Conference fee - $200
UM affiliates (employees and students) - $100
